This is to to help out anyone who is struggling with some of the methods or tags used to post pictures \ youtube videos etc in their posts Yes

Some common Tags used on this forum are:

All tags are enclosed by [ ] brackets, The format to use all tags on this forum is [OPENING TAG] [/CLOSING TAG]

There are TWO methods (GUI method and via Tags) for posting pictures, links and quotes but the way to insert video clips from the Youtube website is to use the youtube tag method outlined below Yes

Below are some examples, the GUI method is shown first followed by the TAG method. In the examples of the tag method the tag syntax is outlined first followed by the result underneath:

    Posting Pictures:

    The Gui Method:

From the tool bar on the post composition screen click on the Insert/Edit Image button:

Enter the pictures URL (Web Address) into the Image URL field and you can also enter a picture description into the Image Description field, this will display when the mouse is hovered over the image and then click insert. This will put the image into your post. Yes

    The IMG tags method:

You can insert pictures into your posts using the IMG tags, inserting the URL (web address) of your image in between the tags like in the example below:

    Posting Images Via Photobucket

You can obtain a free Photobucket account here to host your pictures online.

    • Upload your pictures to photobucket
    • Underneath the uploaded picture there will be four links, copy the IMG Code link to your clipboard
    • Paste the link into your post on the forum
    • Write your post and then upload

    Inserting Hyperlinks:

    The GUI method:

On the post composition screen, highlight the text you wish to make into a hyperlink and click on the Insert/Edit Link button in the tool bar:

Type the target address of your Link into the Link URL field and select from the options in the Target field, depending on weather you want the link to open in a new window or the window that it is viewed from, navigating away from your current page.

    The URL tags method:

You can insert click-able links that open in a new browser window into your posts using the URL tags. After the = in the opening tag insert the URL of the target (this can be the address of a web page or a picture) Then insert the word you would like to make "Clicky" in between the opening and closing tags as in the example below:

    UKMKIV's Forum

Quoting another user in your post:

     The GUI method:

To quote the content of a message in your reply you click on the quote button in the message sumary above the reply window, this copies the text into your reply.

The text that was in the original post will be displayed between formated Quote tags in your reply ready for you to add your response at the bottom

    The Quote tags method:

The quote tags can be used to manually insert a quote of the content of another users post into your post, this can be useful when replying to multiple people in one post so everyone knows what you are talking about and who to.

    Billy No Mates:
I have something really interesting to say – honest Wink

Adding a Youtube clip to your post:

    The youtube tags:

You can display youtube video clips in your posts by using the youtube tags in your post, insert the URL to the youtube video in between the opening and closing tags as in the example below, but beware the youtube tag is case sensitive and must be lower case:

    http://www.youtube.com/v/9fqGmRnVDGs <p><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/9fqGmRnVDGs">http://www.youtube.com/v/9fqGmRnVDGs</a></p>

    View original media here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fqGmRnVDGs

Tags can be combined to get clicky thumbnails:

By using a combination of the URL and IMG tags you can create a clicky thumbnail image, just replace the Text portion of the link you would use in the URL tag with an IMG tag to display a thumbnail picture, as in the example below:

This method can also be used to link an image to a video file hosted on the internet Wink

If there are any additions then let me know and I will keep this first post updated Yes

Fantastic Neil, the simplest explanation of tags I've ever seen on here - should be really useful to anyone having problems Yes

Just a comment, the quote from Tabs is a bit confusing - it seems like he's saying all tags are case sensitive when you have a mix of them in your description (which they're not, so it's ok to use upper or lower case) - was this supposed to just refer to the youtube tag? (never used it so I don't know if that's the case)

Also (more work but you did ask!), it would be great to give the alternative GUI methods too, so that people don't think they HAVE to use tags every time.

Great job as it is though, well done!

LOL, Ok I'll have a look at doing the GUI methods as well Stick out tongue, the youtube quote is case sensitive but like you say it does confuse the issue so I will change that one Yes

I have edited the quote tags part to remove the confusing referance th the youtube tags Yes

I have also done the gui part now, let me know what you think.

The ones I use sometimes I have found on the net and saved to my photobucket account, I then just insert them as pictures. If there are ones you think would be good on the site in general then maybe Tabs could add them like he did with the "Chuckle" but you would need to ask.

The easiest way is to type the word "here" then select it with the mouse and click on the links ymbol (chain) in the tool bar. Paste the URL in to the box and select the behavior of the link (if it opens in a new window or not) then click INSERT and that should be about it Yes

    here

The reason yours wasn't working is that you were trying the picture link but not providing a picture url [;0]
